Two die of suspected water contamination in Tumakuru hospital

TUMAKURU: Two people, who were among over 20 who fell ill after drinking contaminated water at Chinnenahalli village in Madhugiri taluk, died at the district hospital here on Thursday. The deceased are Peddanna (72) and Chikkadasappa (76).

Over 20 people of Chinnenahalli village had complained of vomiting and diarrhoea and were hospitalised three days ago. Of them, the condition of eight people was said to be serious. The affected were admitted to the general hospital in Madhugiri and the district hospital in Tumakuru.

The two deceased are victims of suspected water contamination and a case has been registered at the Midigeshi police station. District in-charge minister Dr G Parameshwara visited those who are undergoing treatment in Tumakuru.

“The taluk health officer is conducting survey and referring some cases to Madhugiri and Tumakuru hospital. Of those admitted, two people died on Wednesday evening. Three people got discharged on their own while one shifted to Jayadeva hospital for further threatment and three are in ICU”, said the district health officer.

“Ten more cases were detected in the village by health officials and they were referred to the Madhugiri hospital of which seven were treated as outpatients. So far, 108 cases have been detected in the village and our teams are conducting surveillance”, he added.
