Two booked for attacking woman during religious procession

The woman was beaten mercilessly during a Muharram procession.

KOPPAL: Two people have been booked for mercilessly beating a woman with the back of a bunch of peacock feathers during a Muharram procession at Hulageri village in Kushtagi taluk. The incident was recorded on mobile phone.

Nagarathna, the victim, was watching the procession when Manjunath Habalakatti beat her repeatedly with a bunch of peacock feathers. Whe she ran to escape the beating, he chased her and continued to rain blows on her.

Manjunath later claimed that he had come under the influence of spirits. Mallikarjun, who allegedly provoked Manjunath, has also been booked.

While Manjunath Habalakatti has been arrested, the police are on the lookout for Manjunath. Cases have been registered against both under the Prevention of Atrocities (SC/ST) Act by the Hanumasagar police.
