BENGALURU: Three people have been arrested in connection with the brutal assault two youths who were working in a bakery near Kundanahalli in HAL. The incident occurred late on Thursday night when the bakery workers asked a customer to pay up for cigarettes. The arrests were made after Home Minister Araga Jnanendra took note of the incident and directed the police to arrest those involved in the assault.
The arrested accused have been identified as food delivery boy Karthik, hotel manager Karthik and aluminium trader Salman. The HAL police are on the lookout for the other accused.
The injured youth Prajwal and Nithin are working at the bakery since the last one-and-half-years. On Thursday night, the three accused barged into a bakery with their friends and assaulted the duo for asking them to pay up for cigarettes. A case was registered at the HAL police station.
Prajwal, one of the injured, said, “We had got a bit delayed than usual on Thursday, but we were about to close the shop. We were cleaning inside when the accused were having tea. We were waiting to collect the money for the tea and cigarettes when one of them phoned his friends. Then, he asked about our owner and I told him he was at home. I knew one person as he is regular customer, but others are new faces to me. They damaged many things in the shop”.
Nitin, the other employee, said, “We are basically from Udupi, working here in bakery from the last one-and-half years. Among the attackers, two people are from the locality. They badly assaulted my fellow worker with a helmet and thrashed him. They have snatched a gold chain, and took cash from the counter. Recently, our neighbouring shop owner had a argument with us over business. They may have planned the assault. I thought, they would kill him but I held them back”.
