Trial courts in Kalaburagi, Shivamogga sentence 7 men to life term in two separate murder cases

KALABURAGI, SHIVAMOGGA: The trial courts in Kalaburagi and Shivamogga have convicted seven murder accused to life imprisonment in separate cases. One of the accused in the Shivamogga case was handed a three-year prison term along with a fine.

The 3rd Additional District and Sessions Court in Kalaburagi has awarded life imprisonment to Santhosh, Nagaraj and Sharanabasava for the brutal murder of Mallikarjun in front of the Kalaburagi bus station in 2019.

The trio committed the murder over a trivial reason and the then SP N Shashikumar had taken the case seriously and the Ashok Nagar police had filed a chargesheet. After the trial over four years, the court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment.

The 2nd Additional District and Sessions Court in Shivamogga has sentenced Avinash (25) of Chowraderakeri, Prashanth (26) of Kumbaragundi, Pradeep R (28) and Gutyappa (28) of Chennakeshavanagar in Shikaripura to life imprisonment along with fines of Rs 80,000 each for the murder of Goni Murthappa of Chowraderakeri in 2017.

Only Akshay (24) of Mayappanakeri was sentenced to three years in jail with a fine of Rs 10,000. If they do not pay the fine, they will have to serve two more years in jail.

Goni Murthappa was murdered over a dispute regarding waste from a tamarind tree. The Shikaripura town had arrested the accused and filed a chargesheet in court.
