Transport Department warns private bus operators not to jack up fares ahead of Ugadi

BENGALURU: The Transport Department has warned private bus operators not to raise the bus fares ahead of the Ugadi festival in the state.

Private bus operators usually increase the fares ahead of every festival in the state. The officials of the Transport Department have issued a warning to the private operators and said that licences and permits will be cancelled if they do not heed the warning. A meeting has also been arranged with them to discuss about the bus fare.

Transport and Road Safety Commissioner S N Siddaramappa, will hold a meeting with private bus operators in the next two days. Not only private bus operators, but action will be taken against app-based companies if they hike the rates ahead of festivals. The officials have planned raid prior, during, and after the festival at the ticket booking centers under the leadership of the Additional Commissioner of Transport.

“Under the leadership of Additional Commissioner of Transport, Mallikarjun, the raid will be conducted at booking centers and on buses. We have instructed all the RTOs in the city about the same. If anyone violates the rules, strict action will be taken against them. We will hold a meeting with the operators and instruct them. If they repeatedly commit the offence, we will take more strict action, including against app-based companies,” said S N Siddaramappa, Commissioner for Transport and Road Safety.
