BENGALURU: Bengaluru’s notorious traffic, especially at major bottlenecks seems to have eased over the last one week, much to the relief of motorists.
A host of measures to regulate traffic, initiated by Special Commissioner (traffic) M A Saleem and Joint Commissioner Anuchet has helped reduce traffic density. Motorists now say that even peak-hour is almost as much as non-peak-hour traffic.
Among the steps taken by the traffic police include synchronisation of traffic signals on a stretch of road, thus reducing waiting time, ensuring that senior traffic police officers are present on the roads from 7.30 am, half an hour before peak hour traffic, deploying personnel at even small junctions and crossroads, curbing movement of goods vehicles during peak hours, introducing one-way norms on the service road where Metro work is going on along the Outer Ring Road and encouraging pedestrians to use the underpass at KR Market by deploying 30 policemen.
“Our focus right now is on managing traffic. Right from senior officers to constables, all are on the road to regulate traffic movement right from 7 am which has helped improve traffic flow. Along with this, movement of goods vehicles during peak hours is being regulated which has led to a reduction in traffic. We are also synchronising traffic signals. However, in some places, the problem still exists and we will take steps to smoothen traffic flow”, said Special Commissioner (traffic) M A Saleem.
Motorists have been commending the steps taken by the traffic police to facilitate easier traffic flow, on Twitter. The travel time has also reduced, many motorists have said.
