Three students dead after KSRTC bus runs over them in Ballari village

BALLARI: Three students died after a KSRTC bus ran over them while they were crossing the road at Halakundi village on Sunday night. The deceased have been identified as Kanakaraju (19), a resident of Emmiganur, Shankar (18), a resident of Murudi village and Honnura (22), a resident of Nagenahalli in Sandur taluk.

Kanakaraju, Shankar and Honnura died after KSRTC bus hit and runs over them.

On Sunday night, the three students were returning from their part-time job when a KSRTC bus heading towards Kalaburagi hit them, killing them on the spot.A case has been registered at the Ballari Rural police station, and the police visited the spot. The body has been sent to VIMS Ballari for post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, the hostel students expressed anger against Taluk Social Welfare Department Officer Ramesh Kumar and said that they have to go to work because the hostel wardens do not provide them food in time. The Ballari Rural police visited the hostel and and placated the students.

“My friend Kanakaraju was not on the hostel’s SC/ST list, and our warden thrashed him for sleeping there and never gave him food. He went to work for food, and while they were returning from the work, he met with an accident, and he died. He was from a poor background and worked and studied”, said Naveen, a friend.
