Three estate workers were arrested on Sunday evening.

CHIKKAMAGALUR: Three labourers were arrested at Herur in Koppa taluk for allegedly stealing and slaughtering cows in a coffee estate. The police raided the estate and caught the accused, Ansar, Mujid and Muzammil, red-handed, filling meat into bags.

The accused claimed to be from Assam, but locals suspect they are actually from Bangladesh, citing similar cases in the region. The police have seized the meat and registered a case at Balehonnur police station, including charges of cattle theft and slaughter.

The incident has sparked concerns about the presence of undocumented workers in the area, with locals demanding a thorough investigation to determine the true identities of the accused. The police are investigating the matter to ascertain whether the accused are indeed from Assam or Bangladesh.
