BENGALURU: Three people have been arrested by the Kalasipalya police in Bengaluru for allegedly assaulting a man who was wearing a saffron shawl while working. The accused Tabrez, Imran and Aziz, reportedly abused and assaulted the youth after objecting to him wearing the shawl.

Surendra Kumar, a co-worker, filed a complaint with the police stating that the victim was working as a loader with a private transport company. “One of our boys was working wearing a saffron shawl. At that time, an unknown youth came and asked why he was wearing a saffron shawl and saidhe shouldn’t wear such things here. When I intervened, he told me to tell the youth to take off his shawl.”

“I asked him what was problem if the worker wears a saffron shawl. When I stepped into the office for a brief while, two other youths came and they slapped the youth 3-4 times on the face. Again, when I intervened, they tore my T-shirt”. Kumar questioned the youth’s right to dictate what others could wear. The Kalasipalya police arrested the three accused based on Kumar’s complaint.
