Three accused in Udupi college incident get bail from local court

UDUPI: A local court on Friday granted bail to three girl students who have been named accused in the incident wherein a mobile phone was secretly kept in the women’s washroom of a private college to shoot videos of other girls.

The three students appeared in Udupi JMFC Court today which inquired into the application and granted bail to all of them.

The Malpe police had registered a suo motu FIR against three girls and the college authorities in the case under various IPC sections and the IT Act, including destroying evidence.

A case was registered under IPC Sections 509 (act committed with intent to humiliate a woman), 204 (act committed without knowledge), 175 (willful failure to furnish appropriate document) and 34 (committed act).

Malpe SI Sushma G B said in the FIR that shooting video in a washroom is invasion of privacy. The college management board said that they deleted the video after coming to know if it and this is a serious crime, the SI noted. The institution’s management admitted to deleting the video and a case was registered with the objecting of establishing the truth, the FIR noted.
