HUBBALLI: A recently married man committed suicide, allegedly upset over mental harassment from his wife’s family. The deceased is Nikhil (28) of Kotilingeshwara Nagar here.
Nikhil and Preethi got married 11 months ago, but they constantly had quarrels. Upset over this, Preethi had gone back to her parental home. Preethi and her family members had filed a complaint against Nikhil. On Thursday, they called him to the Keshwapur police station where they allegedly threatened him.
A week ago, the police had issued him a notice directing him to present himself for inquiry. It is alleged that the police asked him to pay up Rs 2 lakh in one day and later sent him back.
Upset over the developments, Nikhil ended his life by hanging early on Friday at his house. A case has been registered in this regard and further investigation is under way.
