HASSAN: A thief stole Rs 6.30 lakh from a car belonging to a copra trader which was parked in front of his shop at the APMC Yard at Subhash Nagar in Arasikere last Wednesday. The theft has come to light only now.
Suresh, who hails from Tamil Nadu, has been running a copra business at the APMC yard for the last nine years. On the day of the theft, he had withdrawn Rs 6 lakh from a Federal Bank branch and along with another Rs 30,000 which he was carrying, and had kept the cash in bag which was in the car.
Suresh parked his car outside his shop and had not locked it. In CCTV footage, the thief, wearing a cap, can be seen talking on the phone and walking around the car before quickly opening the driver door and making away with the bag containing the cash.
When Suresh returned to his car (KA-18-M-8952), he found the cash missing. The theft was revealed upon checking CCTV footage. The Arasikere Town police visited the spot and have registered a case. They are now on the lookout for the thief.
