CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Friday launched the ‘Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam’ scheme (Kalaignar Women’s rights fund scheme) at Kanchipuram Pachayappa College.

Under the scheme, monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 will be provided to all eligible women beneficiaries of Tamil Nadu. Stalin also distributed ATM cards to the beneficiaries of the scheme.

Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena said, “This monthly financial assistance will decrease poverty. The scheme received over 1.6 crore applications since August. Of them, 1,06,50,000 women were declared as right beneficiaries.”

Shiv Das Meena said that those who have been rejected will be given the reason and if they wanted to claim they could approach again.

“I came to know that some were asked to give OTP and account details through phone. I want to tell them that nothing is been asked so far from the government so no one should fall prey to the calls. If any calls come, I appeal to people to complain to the police immediately. I thank all government officials who made this scheme possible and implemented it,” Meena said.

The launch of the scheme marks the fulfilment of one of the ruling DMK’s key poll promises. According to party officials, the scheme marks 100 per cent fulfilment of the party’s promises to the people.

The launch of this welfare scheme has been timed to coincide with the birth anniversary of the late Dravidian icon and former chief minister C N Annadurai. (ANI)
