TAC submits report to government on Covid-19 guidelines for Karnataka

BENGALURU: The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) has submitted a report to the state government on Covid-19 guidelines to be followed, after a meeting on Wednesday night. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is also scheduled to chair a review meeting the Covid situation on Thursday afternoon.

China is experiencing massive coronavirus cases and hospitals are completely overwhelmed due to the Covid-19 outbreak. On Wednesday, the Union Ministry of Health advised states to be vigilant. Following this, the state government asked the technical advisory committee for a report on Covid-19 guidelines. Currently, the state’s Covid-19 positivity rate is completely under control, but as a precautionary measure, the government is planning to enforce Covid-appropriate behaviour.

TAC recommendations to the state government

  • Awareness should be created about the use of masks in crowded areas, including offices (indoor and outdoor), hospitals and public transport.
  • People above 60 years of age, children and those suffering from chronic diseases, including kidney problems and cancer, should be made aware of the need to wear masks compulsorily.
  • Covid testing should be increased.
  • Every sample sent for genome sequencing should be monitored.
  • Awareness should be created about the observance of Covid rules.
  • In Bengaluru, the Covid strain should be monitored through sewage water testing.
  • Awareness about the Covid vaccination booster dose.
  • Close monitoring of international travellers at the airport.

Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai is scheduled to chair a meeting with technical advisory committee at 3 pm on Thursday to review Covid-19 situation in the state and to discuss the guidelines.

“The Union Health Ministry has given some guidelines about Covid-19. We will have a Covid review meeting with the state health minister and technical advisory committee members. In the meeting, we will discuss precautionary measures. I request that the public be calm and not anxious”, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said in Belagavi where he is participating in the ongoing winter session of the legislature.
