BENGALURU: The state’s first vehicle scrapping centre will come up near Devanahalli where vehicles older than 15 years will be scrapped as per guidelines of the Union Road Transport and Highways ministry.

The scrappage policy came into effect from December 30, 2022, but the state had not set up any certified vehicle scrapping centre so far. Now, the state government has approved setting up of a vehicle scrapping centre by Mahindra MSTC Recycling Pvt Ltd at Vijayapura in Devanahalli taluk.

The order comes into effect from today itself and vehicle owners who wish to scrap their old vehicles can approach the facility. Vehicle owners who scrap their vehicles at the registered vehicle scrapping centre will get a Certificate of Destruction which can be used to avail of discounts when buying a new vehicle.

The vehicles to be scrapped should not have any police cases or traffic fines pending. Vehicles older than 15 year and cause pollution should be scrapped.

In the coming days, the state government plans to open two registered vehicle scrapping centres — one at Koratagere in Tumakuru district and another in Koppal.
