BENGALURU: The state government is planning to rein in private tuition centres by bringing in rules to curtail arbitrary fees and admission of students. Detailed guidelines are expected to be released soon.
The guidelines have been discussed in the cabinet sub-committee formed for educational reforms and it is likely that cabinet approval will be sought before implementing the rules.
Thousands of tuition centres and tutorials are running across the state, including in Bengaluru. Officially, these centers are not registered with government as there are no such rules or specific guidelines. So, thousands of institutions are teaching without officially getting registered.
These centres are charging thousands of rupees as fee in name of tuition and even admissions of students are happening arbitrarily. If there are problems in tuition centres there is no specific punishment. Even when atrocity cases happen in a tuition centre, action is not being taken. Hence, the government is seriously considering bringing in necessary rules, official sources said.
