MADIKERI: A clash broke out between supporters of two teams during a football match at Virajpet on Sunday evening with chairs being thrown amidst the chaos.

The match, which was being held at the taluk stadium, pitted players from Kandaga village against a team from Kerala. The semifinal match, played under floodlights, had generated intense excitement among the spectators, with fans from both sides cheering and chanting slogans.

As Kandaga village’s team emerged victorious, Kerala fans began throwing chairs, sparking a heated confrontation. The situation escalated, with both groups engaging in a chair-throwing melee, creating a tense atmosphere.

The police arrived promptly, dispersing the crowd and restoring order. The police then allowed the final match to proceed, amidst a heightened sense of tension. The sudden outbreak of violence had left the citizens of Virajpet on edge.
