BENGALURU: A special team of the city police is probing the suspicious blast at an under-construction building in Frazer Town on October 20 and an FIR has been filed at the Pulakeshinagar police station under different sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Explosives Act. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also started investigation and a search is on for those responsible for blast.

Considering seriousness of incident police have registered the case under BNS Section 61 for criminal conspiracy, Section 3(5) for committing act with common intention and under Explosives Act 3 and 5 on charge of damage to life-property and illegally storing explosives. Teams of Forensic Laboratory, Bomb Disposal Squad and Anti Terrorist Cell (ATC) who visited incident spot immediately have conducted inspection and collected samples of exploded materials. Apart from this, the NIA is also investigating the blast and visited incident spot and conducted inspection.

The investigation is focusing on an anonymous call that came to security guard. Also, suspicion has been raised that a timer was already fixed in the parcel which exploded, and the NIA is investigating whether it is terrorist act. Two people who were injured — Suraj and Allauddin — in the blast are recovering in hospital.

The investigation is also focusing on whether the material used for blast was an IED or other explosive. Only after the FSL report will it be known what materials were used for blast. It is also being suspected that the explosion was caused due to personal enmity with the building owner. The police are also looking into who had enmity with the building owner, including the previous contractor, where did those who sent the parcel get the IED, among other factor.

Local MLA A C Srinivas, who visited the blast spot, obtained information from DCP-East Vikram Amate. The MLA later said, “I have obtained information from officials and there is suspicion about an IED. The police have sent the fragments to the FSL and the report will give a clearer picture on the nature of the explosive. I have also asked information about building from GBA. I have written letter to the Commissioner that if the building is constructed illegally, action should be taken. This is a matter of national security and it is everyone’s responsibility”.
