Special court convicts Karnataka minister Madhu Bangarappa in cheque bounce case

BENGALURU: The Special Court for Elected Representatives has imposed a fine of Rs 6.96 crore on Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa in a cheque bounce case.

In 2011, Madhu Bangarappa borrowed Rs 6.60 crore from Rajesh Exports on behalf of Akash Audio. A cheque was issued by Madhu Bangarappa for Rs.6.6 crore, but it was dishonoured. Of the total amount, he had repaid only Rs 50 lakh even as the proceedings continued in court.

After a long hearing, the court ordered Madhu Bangarappa to be pay Rs 6,96,70,000 as penalty. If the fine is not paid, he has been ordered to undergo imprisonment for six months.

Out of this penalty, Rs 6,96,60,000  should be given as compensation to the complainant and remaining Rs 10,000 as fine to the government.
