Spate of deer deaths at Bannerghatta worries officials, minister Khandre pays visit

The Bannerghatta Biological Park has witnessed a string of deer deaths.

BENGALURU: The Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) has been witnessing a string of deaths of deer over the last few days, with three more dying on Wednesday. With this, the toll has risen to 16.

The deer had been rescued from St John’s hospital in the city recently and shifted to the BBP. Despite various measures taken by the officials, the spate of deaths have continued. Till Wednesday, 13 deer had died at the park.

The BBP authorities have sent viscera samples to the Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals at Hebbal to establish the cause of death. The park has so far witnessed the deaths of 16 deer an seven leopards.

Forest and Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre visited the biological park on Thursday.
