BENGALURU: The Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) has been witnessing a string of deaths of deer over the last few days, with three more dying on Wednesday. With this, the toll has risen to 16.
The deer had been rescued from St John’s hospital in the city recently and shifted to the BBP. Despite various measures taken by the officials, the spate of deaths have continued. Till Wednesday, 13 deer had died at the park.
The BBP authorities have sent viscera samples to the Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals at Hebbal to establish the cause of death. The park has so far witnessed the deaths of 16 deer an seven leopards.
Forest and Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre visited the BBP on Thursday and inspected the enclosure for herbivores. He also held a meeting with the park officials on the the deaths of the animals.
