Six crushed to death in Kushtagi taluk after car tyre bursts

KOPPAL: Six members of a family, including children, were crushed to death on the spot in a tragic accident on Sunday, after their Indica car’s tyre burst and hit a lorry, which was coming on the other side road.  The incident occurred near Kalakeri in Kushtagi taluk of the district, under the jurisdiction of Kushtagi police station.

The deceased are Rajappa Banagodi, Raghavendra, Akshaya Shivsharan, Jayashri, Rakhi and Rashmika. They had left from Vijayapura to Bengaluru in a hired car. A tyre of the car burst near Kalakeri causing the driver to lose control over the vehicle and it was thrown to the other carriageway and hit an oncoming truck.

The police struggled to extricate the bodies from the car as it was crushed and crashed into the front part of the truck.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed condolences to the victims of accident and bereaved family. He also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the family of the deceased.

Taking to Twitter, the CM stated, “Saddened to hear the heartwrenching news that six people, including young children, were killed in a horrific accident near Kushtagi in Koppal district. May the departed souls rest in peace”.

Siddaramaiah mentioned that Rs 2 lakh compensation each will be given to the family of the deceased. “Overspeeding, reckless driving are the causes of such accidents. Drive carefully and stay safe”, the CM noted.
