BENGALURU: Close on the heels of the special court for elected representatives rejecting the anticipatory bail application of JD(S) MLC H D Revanna in the kidnap case registered at KR Nagar in Mysuru district, the special investigation team (SIT) arrested him from the house of party patriarch H D Deve Gowda in Padmanabhanagar late on Saturday evening.

Armed with a search warrant, the SIT members, led by SP Simon, and Deputy SPs Shekhar and Nagaraj, arrived at former PM Deve Gowda’s residence and took Revanna into custody. He was taken for medical examination and will be later brought to the CID office. Revanna is likely to be produced before a magistrate on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Revanna had approached the court seeking protection from arrest, but the special public prosecutor pointed out that the JD(S) leader had not responded three notices. The SPP also sought an in-camera hearing in view of the sensitivity of the case.

Revanna’s lawyer Murthy Naik argued that the SPP was making allegations and giving information to the media. He also claimed that the SIT was needlessly making a mountain of a molehill.

After hearing the arguments from both sides for one hour and forty minutes, the judge rejected Revanna’s application following which the SIT arrested him.
