BENGALURU: The distribution of smart cards under the Shakti free travel scheme for women is said to be doubtful at the moment. It was earlier stated that smart card distribution would begin from June 1. However, since the tender has not yet been floated, there will be no smart card distribution for the next two months.
It has been three years since the Cognress government came to power, and it has been saying it will provide smart cards, but distribution has still not started. If smart cards are distributed, women can travel using the smart card instead of an Aadhaar card. Women will not have to pay any amount to get the smart card.
Smart cards can be obtained at TTMC centers and also at BangaloreOne centres. Wheter the tenders will be called any time soon and the smart cards distributed in the next two months remains to be seen.
