KOPPAL: A teacher at a government school, who has been accused of sexually assaulting schoolchildren, was thrashed by the public at Karatagi in the district after videos of his acts went viral. He has since gone missing from his house.
Raichur DDPI Sharanappa Vatagal has placed him under suspension and sought a detailed report from the block education officer.
Azharuddin is a teacher at the government higher primary school in neighbouring Singapura village in Sindhanoor taluk of Raichur district. He would allegedly invite children home on the pretext of teaching and sexually abuse them. He also recorded the acts on his mobile phone.
Not only that, Azharuddin engaged in sexual acts with some women from his neighbourhood and videographed them. He threatened the two women and through them, indulged in sexual acts with more women. It is alleged that he has so far sexually assaulted about 40 women.
One of the victims filed a complaint against Azharuddin. In her complaint, the victim has stated that he promised her that he would get her children admitted in school in exchange for sexual favours. Later, he threatened to upload the video on social media and kill her if she did not cooperate, the woman stated.
“A special team has been formed and we well arrest the accused soon”, said Koppal Superintendent of Police Arunangshu Giri.
The Karatagi police have registered an FIR under IPC Sections 376, 354, 323, 504 and 501 and are investigating.
