Seven, including 3 of family, dead, 35 injured in separate accidents

HAVERI, MANDYA, SHIVAMOGGA: Seven people, including three of a family, died and several others were injured in separate accidents in different parts of the city on Thursday.

Three people were killed and three others were injured after a car rammed into parked lorry in front of Nisarga Dhaba near Chalageri Toll in Ranebennur taluk on National Highway 48. The deceased were identified as Siddharth (27), the driver, Hasanmukhi (29) and Yashodha Bai (51). The injured Soundarya (26), Sindhu (24) and one-year-old child Kashwashree were shifted to SS Hospital in Davangere.

They are said to be residents of Nitavalli Mouneshwara Layout in Davangere and the accident occurred while they were going from Ranebennur to Davanagere. The car was coming at high speed and crashed into a parked lorry, resulting in a horrific accident.

The family had celebrated 1-year-old child’s birthday and was going to Karwar for darshan at a temple. The tragedy occurred while they were going from Karwar to Davanagere. The Ranebennur Rural police visited the spot and conducted an inspection. A case has been registered within the limits of Ranebennur Rural police station.

In another accident, a lorry driver died after he lost control and the vehicle fell below a flyover on National Highway-48 near Hulihalli in Ranebennur taluk. The lorry driver was trying to overtake another vehicle when he lost control and the lorry rolled off the bridge.

The driver, Basavaraj (45), got trapped in the lorry and died on the spot. The deceased was a native of Hubballi and the lorry was going from Hubballi towards Bengaluru.

Two people were killed and over 20 injured after a speeding private bus crashed into a signboard and overturned near the Bellur Toll on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru Highway in Nagamangala taluk on Thursday. The bus was travelling from Mangaluru towards Bengaluru.

Kasturi Shanbhag (64), a resident of Bengaluru, and the bus cleaner Ashok (25) died on the spot due to the severity of the accident. More than 20 passengers were injured and were immediately admitted to BGS Apollo Hospital in nearby Bellur for treatment. Deputy Commissioner Dr Kumar, Police Superintendent Dr Shobha Rani and other senior officials visited the accident spot and conducted an inspection. A case has been registered at Bellur police station in this regard.

A motorcycle rider died and at least 15 people were injured after a private bus crashed into areca plantation while trying to avoid the motorcycle that came across near Koodligere in Bhadravati taluk on Thursday. The seriously injured bike rider, Rajappa (44) died before he could be taken to hospital. The deceased was a resident of Arebilachi Camp in Bhadravati and was going from Arebilachi towards Bhadravati when the accident occurred.

One boy with severe injuries has been shifted to Manipal Hospital in Udupi while three injured persons were shifted to a private hospital in Shivamogga. The other are being treated at McGann Hospital in Shivamogga and Bhadravati Taluk Hospital. The private bus was going from Bhadravati to Channagiri.
