Seven dead as bus, passenger vehicle collide head-on in Tamil Nadu

BENGALURU: Seven people died, five of them on the spot, after a Tamil Nadu state transport bus and an MPV collided head-on near Chengam in Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu on Monday night. Two of them died enroute to hospital while four others were admitted to hospital in serious condition.

The bus was on its way to Tiruvannamalai while the Tata Sumo (KA 02 AA 8389) was coming to Bengaluru. The impact of the crash was such that the MPV was completely crushed and had got stuck under the bus. An excavator had to be used to separate the two vehicles.

The Chengam kaval police immediately rushed to the spot and carried out rescue work. Chengam Assembly constituency MLA M P Giri, senior police officials and the district collector visited the spot. The police were trying to establish the identities of the deceased.
