Seven families have been boycotted for not contributing to a religious event.

MANDYA: Seven Dalit families have been boycotted by members of the same community on the instructions of the elders at Ganjam in Srirangapatna taluk.

The seven families face boycott and fines for defying community leaders and not contributing for a religious event and speaking against the community. The commmunity in the village has been told not to interact with seven families, attend functions, or have any transactions with them.

The affected families have approached authorities and plan to take legal action against the community leaders. Yeshwanth Kumar, a youth from one of the affected families said, “This is untouchability. They have boycotted us and imposed fines because we did not contribute Rs 100 for a festival. We need justice”.
