BENGALURU: Senior artist B K S Varma (76), who had been ailing from age-related health issues, died around 8.30 am at the Manipal Hospital, Hebbal, on Monday. He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for the last three months.
Varma was known for his paintings on nature and social issues. He was awarded a honorary doctorate by the Bangalore University in 2011.
Born in 1949, Varma’s father Krishnamacharya was a musician while his mother Jayalakshmi was an artist. Varma had won several awards including the Lalit Kala Akademi award, Rajyotsava award, Aryabhatta award, the Rajiv Gandhi award among others.
