Security heightened across Karnataka after Delhi car blast case

BENGALURU: Following the car blast case near Red Fort metro station in Delhi, which left at least eight people dead and several injured, the police across Karnataka increased security at vital installations, tourist and public places on Tuesday.

The Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru witnessed high alert and security was tightened with additional CISF personnel deployed. Police were closely monitoring vehicles arriving at the airport, and passengers are being thoroughly screened at departure and arrival gates.

The CISF personnel in plainclothes are also conducting checks. The airport’s parking areas and incoming vehicles are under surveillance. Security has been beefed up across the airport, with police patrols intensified.

Security checks were intensified at the border areas of Chikkamagaluru district, particularly at Kottigehara in Mudigere taluk, a gateway to South Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts. Police are inspecting vehicles entering and exiting the district, gathering information from travellers. Given the region’s forest cover and sensitive borders, authorities have declared high alert across Chikkamagaluru district.

Chamarajanagar district, a border area, is also on high alert. Security was tightened in sensitive areas, with thorough checks at railway and bus stations, and other crowded places. Police deployed dog squads and bomb detection teams to inspect the area. The district is under police surveillance, with precautions in place to prevent untoward incidents.

In Davanagere, the bomb disposal squad inspected the city since Monday night, focusing on the railway station and other crowded places. With the Sindhu dog squad, authorities checked suspicious bags, dustbins, boxes, and shops. The railway station, KSRTC bus stand, and other areas were thoroughly inspected. Railway coaches were also being checked, with officials examining suspicious bags.

Hassan’s railway police was on high alert. They inspected the railway station, checking cars, bikes, and parking areas inch by inch. Metal detectors were used, and cars were thoroughly searched. Police checked passengers’ bags and dustbins near the station. The inspection was led by Railway Police Inspector Patil.

The bus stand was inspected by dog squads and bomb disposal teams, checking passenger luggage and the premises, including parking areas and dustbins. Checks have been ongoing since Monday night in various parts of the district, focusing on bus and railway stations, and other crowded areas.

Police took extra precautions, including setting up additional barricades at checkpoints like Shahpur Gate in Bidar. Thorough checks were conducted at Kamalnagar and Basavakalyan checkpoints on the Maharashtra border.

In Vijayapura district, the police launched a security sweep, focusing on key areas like the famous Gol Gumbaz monument. With bomb detection equipment and dog squads, authorities inspected tourist spots, the railway station, and bus stand. Visitors are being screened, and bags are being checked at ticket counters and other entry points. The security measures have created anxiety among tourists and locals alike.

High alert was declared in Ballari district. At the railway station, police conducted thorough checks with dog squads and metal detectors. Every passenger’s bag is being inspected, and vehicles outside the station are also being checked.

Given the high volume of passengers from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra, authorities left no bag unchecked. Railway officials have recalled all staff on leave, and strict security measures are in place following directives from senior officials.

In Kalaburagi, the police have stepped up security. The bomb squad inspected the Kalaburagi railway station, checking every inch of the premises, including passengers’ bags.

Hubballi, a commercial hub, was on high alert following the Delhi explosion. The city is home to the world’s longest railway platform, and security was tightened. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) was on the ground, with a dog squad and special teams inspecting the railway station under ASC Janardhan Chowdary. Authorities briefed coolies, auto and cab drivers, and municipal workers to report any suspicious activities or individuals.

Police in Haveri have intensified security checks at the Mylara Mahadevappa railway station, with dog squads and special teams to inspect passengers’ bags and belongings. The railway station, bus stand and tahsildar’s office were thoroughly checked, focusing on high-traffic areas. Authorities urged the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals.

Security was intensified at the Karnataka-Goa border, particularly at the Karwar-Goa border checkpoint in Majali in Uttara Kannada district. Authorities are conducting thorough checks, focusing on sensitive and crowded areas.

A special team is inspecting tourist spots, and the Kaiga nuclear power plant and Kadamba naval base are on high alert. Police are patrolling sensitive areas, and the SP has instructed teams to check vehicles entering the district. The railway station, ports, and bus stand wee also inspected by bomb and dog squads.

Raichur police were also on high alert and the Authorities conducted thorough checks in sensitive areas, including the railway station, bus stand, and power stations like RTPS and YTPS. Bomb disposal and dog squads checked passengers’ bags, dustbins, and vehicles in parking areas.

Railway officials are monitoring parcels, and local police are working with railway police to intensify security checks. The bus stand was also checked, with a focus on inter-state buses.

Yadgir police were on high alert with the authorities are taking precautions, especially at sensitive spots like Narayanapur Dam. SP Prithvik Shankar states that they’re monitoring railway and bus stations, and increasing security at Narayanapura Dam. Police are vigilant in crowded areas and sensitive spots, taking measures to prevent incidents.
