Schools, colleges closed in Udupi, other districts as incessant rain batters Karnataka

UDUPI: With a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) amid heavy rain in Udupi, district Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M declared a holiday for anganwadis, schools and colleges on Thursday.

Tourists and fishermen have also been advised not to go to beaches and sea areas.

Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Dr Sateesha B C, Uttara Kannada DC Dr Rajendra K V, Hassan DC R Girish have also announced a holiday for anganwadis, schools and colleges in Alur, Arakalagud and Sakleshpur.

Meanwhile, one person died in a landslide that occurred at Panjikal village in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, the Deputy Commissioner said.

Three people have been rescued, out of whom one is in critical condition and has been admitted to hospital, he said.

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Sonawane said the death toll in rain-related incidents has risen to three and one is undergoing treatment for injuries. (ANI)
