HASSAN: A school teacher was kidnapped, allegedly by a relative, after she and her family members rejected his marriage proposal, at Bittagowdanahalli on the outskirts of the city early today morning.
The teacher, Arpitha, was on her way to school around 8 am when she was bundled into a Toyota Innova by a group of men and taken away. Arpitha’s family has claimed that their relative Ramu was behind the kidnap.
The family members said that Ramu had approached them seeking Arpitha’s hand in marriage about 15 days ago, but she and her parents had rejected the proposal. Angered by this, he kidnapped her, they alleged.
Superintendent of Police Mohammed Sujeetha, who visited the spot, said three police teams have been formed to trace the kidnappers. “The family has accused Ramu of being behind the kidnap. Arpitha is a teacher at Aradhana School and we are looking into why she stepped out of the house as it was a holiday today”, she said.
A local said that he heard the woman scream and when he looked, the men had bundled her into a car and sped away. “There were not many people on the road at that time. Only when she screamed, people came out to check what had happened”.
