Sandalwood queen Ramya hale and hearty, to return to Bengaluru on Thursday

BENGALURU: Social media was flooded with rumours about the death of actress, former MP and Sandalwood queen Ramya a.k.a Divya Spandana on Wednesday. After the fake news began to trend with #DivyaSpandana on X,  anxious fans and followers started to seek confirmation about the grim rumour.

Finally, Ramya confirmed herself that she is fine and on tour in Geneva and that she will be returning to Bengaluru on Thursday. Ramya put a lid on the rumours by re-tweeting her friend Chitra Subramaniam’s post on X saying, “See you in namma uru soon” with heart symbol emoticon.

As regards the fake news about Ramya, a Tamil television said small screen actor Ramya had suffered a heart attack but showed Sandalwood actress Ramya’s photo. Then, the news went viral on social media. Ramya’s relatives and friends immediately called her and inquired about her health.

Her close friends said that Ramya is healthy and requested people and her fans not to spread false news and not to panic. One among Ramya’s friends, Chitra Subramaniam shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) that she had met Ramya in Geneva and both had talked about many things including their love for Bengaluru.

A journalist posted on X, “I got worried and called her. When it rang the first time, Ramya did not receive it. Later, Ramya got the call. She was angry that how such rumors were spread”.

“Just spoke to @divyaspandana. She is in Geneva, was sleeping peacefully till calls came in. Whoever the irresponsible person was who tweeted this and the news organisations that put it out as news flash, shame on you. #DivyaSpandana,”, the journalist posted on X.

KT Lakshmi Kanthan, chairman of Congress’ IT Cell @INCTamilNadu, hit out at the rumours stating, “Our beloved Former Social Media Chairperson Ms @divyaspandana is ABSOLUTELY FINE. Rumors and some TV channel news are 100% WRONG”

Some X users claimed that the rumour may have begun from the confusion over the same name, which just similar to Kannada actor Vijay Raghavendra’s wife Spandana who died in Bangkok last month after a cardiac arrest.
