Rush of applicants as registrations open up for Gruha Lakshmi scheme

A rush of applicants for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme was witnessed at one of the registration centres in Hubballi on Thursday.

BENGALURU: After a delayed start, registration for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, where the woman head of a household will get Rs 2,000 per month, began on Thursday.

Below Poverty Line (BPL), Above Poverty Line (APL) families whose ration cards are linked to Aadhaar numbers, and those with Antyodaya cards, will receive an SMS indicating when and where they can register. Only those who have received the SMS on the registered mobile number can register for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme.

On the first day of registration, there was a rush of applicants in Bengaluru and other parts of the state at the designated registration centres with some complaining that they had not received the SMS. Applicants can register at BangaloreOne, KarnatakaOne, GramaOne centres, Bapuji Seva Kendras, at civic body office and through elected representatives.

Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar appealed to eligible beneficiaries to enrol for the scheme.

The Gruha Lakshmi scheme was formally launched by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday evening. About 1.28 crore households are expected to benefit from the scheme.

Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar appealed to all eligible families to enrol for the scheme. “The objective of the Congress government is to empower women”, she said.
