Rs 98.5 crore worth of illegally stocked beer seized at brewery near Nanjangud

MYSURU: Excise officials on Thursday raided United Breweries Ltd at Tandya industrial area near Nanjangud and seized Rs 98.52 crore worth of beer stored illegally. Cases have been registered against 12 people in this connection.

The Excise officials found that excessive beer than declared had been stored in the brewery. This included 7,000 litres of bottled beer of different brands. The officials seized the stocks along with the UT tank and silos tanks.

The Excise officials are now on the lookout for those who are absconding. According to sources, about 14,000 cartons of liquor were intended to be shipped to Kerala.

Excise official attacked

Excise constable Santhosh was assaulted by a motorcycle rider for stopping him to conduct checks at Tippur village in KR Nagar taluk.

When the constable stopped the two-wheeler, an argument broke out and the motorcycle rider assaulted Santhosh, leaving him bleeding in the face and head. He was admitted to a hospital in Mysuru and a case has been registed against four people at the KR Nagar police station.
