Rs 30 lakh worth of goods destroyed after fire breaks out in paint shop in Balepet

Firemen fighting the blaze at a paint shop in Balepet in the wee hours on Saturday.

BENGALURU: A fire broke out at a two-storeyed building in Balepet area of city in the wee hours today. Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the blaze. However, the cause of the fire was not immediately known.

The fire engulfed the entire building which housed a paint shop on the ground floor and a bag store on the first floor. It is estimated that about Rs 30 lakh worth of goods were destroyed in the fire.

Three fire tenders were pressed into service.

On receiving information, the paint shop owner Krishnamurthy and his family rushed to the spot. Krishnamurthy has been running the paint shop for the last 30 years and it is for the first time such an incident occurred in the building.

During the firefighting, a youth got trapped in the building, but he was safely rescued by the firemen. The firefighters broke open the shutters with the help of an excavator and battled the blaze for four hours to douse it. The incident occurred in Upparpet police station limits.
