Cash of Rs 2 crore was seized from a bus passenger at the Hirebagewadi toll plaza.

BELAGAVI: Officials on election duty have seized Rs 2 crore in cash which was being carried by a bus passenger without proper documents at the Hirebagewadi toll gate on the national highway early on Wednesday.

The bus passenger, who was on his way from Mumbai to Mangaluru was detained following which district Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil and Income Tax officials arrived at the spot.

In another incident, the Nandgadh police seized gold and silver ornaments being transported in a car, all worth Rs 53.33 lakh, near Khanapur. The seizures include 395.7 gm of gold worth Rs 21,25,304, 28.065 gm of silver worth Rs 15,08,420 and the car worth Rs 13 lakh. The gold and silver was being transported from Haliyal to Kekkeri without any valid documents.

Also, illegally stocked liquor worth Rs 7.7 lakh was seized from a house at Khanagaon in Gokak taluk. Acting on specific information, the Excise Department officials seized 202 crates of liquor of different brands totalling 1,745.280 litres and 206.280 litres of beer. A case was registered against the house owner.
