BENGALURU : A retired government employee lost his pension amount to cyber fraudsters who misused his Aadhaar number which was linked to his bank accounts.
The complainant Ranganath of JP Nagar had deposited Rs 1.10 lakh in SBI Bank, Kottanur Dinne branch. Of this, about Rs 8,500 was siphoned off by fraudsters by misusing his Aadhaar number. Then, Ranganath questioned the bank staff how his Aadhaar number, which was shared for KYC, could be misused.
Ranganath also lost Rs 10,000 from his HDFC Bank account in JP Nagar. He got to know about the withdrawal after he received a message that money had been withdrawn from an ATM.
Worried, Ranganath inquired at the bank and it came to light that fraudsters had stolen the money. A case has been registered at Puttenahalli police station in this regard. The police are on the lookout for the online fraudster.
