Villagers refusing to pay electricity bill as Congress promised that it will provide free electricity.

CHITRADURGA: Villagers of Jallikatte in Chitradurga district scolded to a Bescom meter reader on Monday when the he and another staffer went there to collect electricity bills, saying that the Congress had promised free electricity for every house if the party comes to power.

The Bescom meter reader, like every month, went to the village to issue electricity bills for the month. However, the villagers stopped the staff from read the meter board and said that they will not going to pay bill this time. They said the Congress party has already got majority in the state and the government will be formed soon. A video of a Congress leader saying “Don’t note down the meter reading, nobody pay the bills” has since gone viral.

The villagers said that the Congress had earlier announced that if it comes to power in the state, 200 units of electricity will be free. “Then, why we do we have to pay the bill now when the Congress party had come to power now”, the villagers questioned.

Meanwhile, the meter reader spoke with his higher-ups and asked the villagers to pay the bill till the government issues an order in this regard, but the villagers refused.

They even scolded him for raising voice and said he should ask the Congressmen about the electricity bill order. The Bescom staff failed to convince them and returned from the village.
