Relief for Cong, K’taka High Court stays order on suspending Twitter handles

BENGALURU: In a major relief for the Congress, a division bench of the Karnataka High Court has stayed the order of a Bengaluru court directed Twitter to take temporarily suspend the handles of the Congress and Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Appearing for the Congress, senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi gave an assurance to the high court bench that the party will take down the post on social media, featuring the KGF-2 song, by Wednesday evening and provide screenshots of the same. The party will also provide the records to MRT Music, the petitioner, he said.

Last Friday, MRT Music had lodged a complaint with the Yeshwantpur police alleging that three senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh and Supriya Shrinate had unauthorisedly used music from the Kannada blockbuster ‘KGF-2’ during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

On Monday, a court in Bengaluru had directed Twitter to temporarily suspend the handles of the Congress and its Bharat Jodo Yatra campaign, in the alleged copyright infringement case.
