The road had been recently asphalted, locals say.

DHARWAD: A recently-laid road is being dug up by the Public Works Department (PWD) to white-top the 1-km stretch, drawing the ire of residents.

The road connecting Ranakpur and Pendargalli in the city had been asphalted recently. But now, it is being dug up to concretise it, much to the chagrin of the locals. When the government is facing a fund crunch, what was the necessity to relay the entire strech of road at at cost of Rs 2.5 crore, they questioned.

Locals pointed out that work was taken up earlier and stopped midway. “To fund the guarantee schemes, all other development had taken a back seat. Now, the white-topping work has been taken up again by digging up the asphalted road which was in good condition”, they said.
