Rare white mud snake found near Hampi temple

The snake was rescued and released in a safe place.

BALLARI: A rare white mud snake was spotted at the historical Vijaya Vittala temple premises in Hampi on Tuesday. Unable to identify the snake, the security personnel and visitors were in a fix.

On receiving information, wildlife enthusiast Mallikarjun G B reached the spot and rescued the snake. He then released the reptile at a safe place.

Animal conservationist and wildlife activist Venugopal Naidu explained, “This is a common snake but has no skin pigmentation, or melanin. It is also called an albino. Because of its colour, it is thought to be rare”.
