SHIVAMOGGA: A rare Malabar large-spotted civet (Viverra civettina) cat, which was not in good health, was found in a roadside ditch at Purappemane village in Hosanagara taluk.

The animal was treated by veterinarians at the Tyavarekoppa lion sanctuary.

Villagers informed the Forest Department that the civet was in a ditch by the side of the road connecting Purappemane and Gadikatte, following which the staff arrived and rescued the animal.

The civet was then rushed to the Tyavarekoppa lion and tiger reserve where it was treated by veterinarians. The Malabar large-spotted civet is found only in the dense forests of the Western Ghats and preys on small animals.
