Ramanagara police open fire at history-sheeter

RAMANAGARA: The Ramanagara Town police opened fire at a history sheeter, injuring him in the leg, on Saturday evening when he allegedly tried to escape after attacking policemen while being taken to a scene of crime.

Mateen, a history-sheeter in Ramanagara Town police station, was the prime accused in a riot that took place three days ago. The police arrested Mateen and had taken him to the spot wherein incident took place in the evening. At this time, the accused attacked the police and tried to escape.

Mateen allegedly assaulted two policemen. Immediately, Deputy SP Dinakar Shetty shot Mateen in the leg in self-defence. The injured accused Mateen was shifted to a private hospital in Bengaluru. The policemen who were injured in the incident were also treated.

District Superintendent of Police Karthik Reddy and Additional SP Suresh visited the incident site. A case has been registered at the Ramanagara Town police station in this regard.
