Puttur college hosts controversial play on Ram mandir destruction

MANGALURU: In what could spark a fresh controversy in the communally sensitive region, the Vivekananda Autonomous Univeristy at Puttur hosted a play on Tuesday depicting the destruction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya and construction of the Babri masjid.

In the play, the character of Mir Baqi (Baqi Tashqandi), a commander of Mughal king Babur’s army, can be seen raising slogans of ‘Nara E Takbeer’ and ‘Allah hu Akbar’ and ordering his soldiers to demolish the Ram temple. The play was staged on the occasion of the institution’s founding anniversary.

Locals have demanded action against the college management for hosting such a play. No complaint had been filed with the police as of Thursday evening.
