Pune-based businessman hacked to death by unidentified men, wife injured, in Karwar village

KARWAR: A Pune-based businessman was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants, who also attacked his wife with a machete at their relative’s house at Hanakona village in Karwar taluk, early on Sunday.

The deceased businessman was identified as Vinayak Nayak (52) who died on the spot. His wife, who was severely injured, is undergoing treatment at the Karwar district hospital.

The couple had arrived in Hanakona to attend a village festival last week and planned to return to Pune on Sunday. The motive and identity of the killers are unknown. Vinayak has told his friends that he would return to Pune in the morning, but was murdered before leaving his relative’s house. The murder has raised much suspicion.

The incident occurred under the Chittakula police station limits. A case has been registered and investigation is under way.
