RAICHUR: An 18-year-old student committed suicide by hanging at the Ambedkar hostel bathroom in Sindhanur town on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Hirehusenappa. Following the incident, a case has been registered against the hostel warden and the taluk officer of the Social Welfare Department.
Hirehusenappa hailed from Gunjahalli in Sindhanur taluk, but the motive for his suicide was not known. He was a student of the Government PU College. Hostel officials and police visited the spot on Friday on getting information about the incident.
Based on a complaint from his mother Hussainamma, a case was registered against hostel warden Ravichandra and the taluk officer of the Social Welfare Department, Vijaya. It is alleged that Hirehusenappa was mentally harassed after he questioned the lack of basic facilities at the hostel and the other inmates of the were instigated to abuse him in the name of caste.
