PU hostel inmate commits suicide by hanging in Davanagere

DAVANAGERE: A PUC student committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her room at the government hostel at Harihar on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Varsha, a resident of Basapura village in Mayakonda taluk. She was a student of first PUC at Ambedkar College in Harihar. From Class 8, she had been staying in the post-matric hostel along with her friends.

Varsha committed suicide by hanging herself in the hostel room.

On Tuesday morning, she got up early to study, went shopping with her friends, bought things she needed and returned to the hostel. Upon returning to the hostel, she asked her friend to bring panipuri and locked the room. When her friend knocked on the door, she did not open. The hostel staff later broke the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan.

Harihara police station visited the spot.

The exact reason for the suicide is not yet known. The parents alleged that hostel wardens and staff harassed her. A case has been registered at Harihar police station. The police visited the spot and further investigation is under way.
