Prohibitory orders in Srirangapatna ahead of VHP march to Jamia Masjid

SRIRANGAPATNA: The Mandya district administration has decided to bar entry into the Jamia Masjid in Srirangapatna and impose prohibitory orders under Section 144 of IPC around the masjid on June 3 and 4 in the light of the ‘Srirangapatna Chalo’ call given by the Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP).

The VHP and other Hindu organisations have decided to hold a hobli-level meeting on June 4 and take out procession from Kuvempu Circle in Srirangapatna to the Jamia Masjid in which thousands are expected to take part.

As a precautionary measure Mandya Deputy Commissioner Ashwathi has decided to impose prohibitory orders around the masjid. The police are also on high alert and security arrangements have also been made around the masjid.

The Hindu groups are demanding that the madrasa inside the mosque should be vacated and action should be taken againt those living inside the protected monument. They are also demanding videography of the entire premises, including the sanctum sanctorum, and access to the Anjaneya temple inside to offer prayers.
