HASSAN: The demand for immediate implementation of the Gruha Jyothi scheme, wherein the Congress has promised 200 units of free power, took a serious turn when a man and his minor son allegedly attacked a staffer of the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) at Arkalgud on Wednesday.

Bill collector Santhosh had gone to collect Rs 1,150 in power dues from Suresh, who runs a chicken shop on Old Court Road in the town. However, Suresh abused Santhosh and his wife saying that the government has announced free electricity and questioned him why he was coming to collect the dues.

A CESC staffer was attacked in Arkalgud on Wednesday.

The argument took a violent turn when Suresh and his minor son attacked Santhosh, who was admitted to a hospital for treatment of injuries.

“We had gone to collect pending dues as per the instructions of our higher-up. Even as we were talking about it, the minor son and his father suddenly assaulted me and also abused me in foul language”, Santhosh said.

The incident occurred in Arkalgud Town police limits, but no case was registered.
