Portion of heritage Maharani’s Science College collapses, none injured

MYSURU: It was a providential escape for many students and teachers of the more than a century old Maharani’s Science College here when the roof of the chemistry lab came crashing down on Friday morning, following heavy rain over the last few days. The presence of mind of Principal Dr D Ravi saved many lives.

The principal, who was on a round of the college on Friday morning, noticed the dangerous state of the lab and asked the staff to lock the room. At exactly 10.28 am, the roof came crashing down in a pile. Had the principal been even a few minutes late, many lives would have been at stake.

The Maharani’s Science College building is a heritage structure and the college celebrated its centenary a few years ago.

The Nandi statue road witnessed another landslip on Friday.

Meanwhile, a landslip occurred on Chamundi Hills on the Nandi statue road on Friday, causing huge cracks on the road. The hill has witnessed several such incidents over the last two years.
